Evening Ride

Our usual Thursday night ride and beer was taken to a new level last night. We set off at 8pm for Dulwich Park. I decided to take Ben over Canonbie Road which is a nice ‘starters’ hill. I regretted this and found myself struggling, not having ridden my bike for over a week.

Stats
Distance:38.7 miles
Average speed:13.5 mph
Max speed:38.9 mph
Ride time:2:51:17By the time we reached Dulwich Park all was well and I had found my legs. After a quick spin around we decided to head for the river to follow NCR 4. From there we rode along the Thames from Putney to Barnes.

Then it was a short hop up to Richmond Park for a ride up to Richmond Gate via the gravel track which winds from Roehampton Gate. On the way back we sped down Sawyers Hill. I managed to tuck in behind Ben and obtained a respectable 38.9 mph.

We took the same route back home until we hit Forest Hill where we put the hammer down and raced along the A205 to Catford. We cruised into Masons at 22.55 where happily drinks were still being served. Never has a pint of Erdinger been so welcome!

After the pint we decided to end the night with a few drinks at Ben’s house. It seemed a good idea at the time and indeed was a very enjoyable evening which ended at around 2.45am. Needless to say when I arrived home, I crashed on the sofa after necking a pint of protein shake only to be woken 2 hours later by my dear daughter. Oh dear…
